The best things in life uplift us. I am not talking about elevators when we need to get to the top floor, (although that is nice). Rather I am talking about lifting our spirits as we go about our day-to-day activities. This is the role of the artist, who “give us enthusiasm to do our work” as St. John Paul II said in his famous Letter to Artists. Beauty speaks to our hearts like nothing else, for it promises something that we are all seeking – happiness.
However this does not always result in a promise fulfilled. We are all aware that beauty can be deceptive when it is only skin-deep. Such untruths can hurt. However if beauty is a draw towards something that is actually good, well that is quite another thing. And if it points to the Transcendent then it is in the service of the highest things – of what actually is.
So you can understand my joy when I received these pictures of my dresses being used for such a purpose. I am a bit tardy in sharing them with you, because they deserved more than just a few hurried thoughts. In reflecting upon them, it became an occasion to better appreciate the impact of my work. As you know every piece is a new hand-crafted original. Even though others have knocked off my ideas for mass production (whether here in the states or overseas), it is good to be reminded of the higher calling of the artist and the value of what they can offer the world today.

I apologize to the recent First Holy Communion customers I missed in this blog post. Hopefully, I will post more soon!
