“Some Will like you, Some People Won’t like you, So What. Next!” (SWSWSWN)
This is a phrase my dad heard and passed on to me ( and it continues to echo in my head).
When I first stepped into the real world after college, I was hard on myself each time I dropped a lead, particular job, or client. But over time and experience, I’ve come to understand SWSWSWN and my dad’s advice. My life and work will be more enjoyable if I work with those who work well with me, enjoy my product/service, and overall good people!
This past year, I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with people who work well with me and who are very appreciative of my work 🙂
One such client was/is Stephanie (and her fiancé Roman).
Last September, Stephanie contacted me about helping her design and create her Ukrainian wedding dress and Roman’s Ukrainian blouse. She would do the embroidery and lace, while I did the patterning and sewing. Despite Stephanie residing quite far from me, I couldn’t pass up this opportunity!
Stephanie and I not only had a lot in common, but I was also VERY impressed by her artisan skills! Stephanie’s embroidery and Ukrainian lace (Merezhka) pieces are amazing and perfect! I’m quite blown away by her skills!

Did you know that embroidery should look almost the same in the back as it does in the front? Well…it should.
And when you flip over Stephanie’s embroidery and merezhka, it’s extremely clean and perfect! Below I have 2 pictures of a Ukrainian embroidery piece: (1) front and (2) back. (This piece was either sewn by my grandmother or a relative from Ukraine.)
Thus far, we’ve had 2 fittings and multiple mock-ups. And as we move forward, the dress and shirt will continue to evolve and change as we test different designs and fabrics. However there are a few things we know for certain now and some of those things are (for the wedding dress): short dress, full skirt, ivory and square neck.

This blog post won’t be a wedding dress spoiler. The dress continues to evolve and take shape over time.
(I’m not sure if Stephanie wants to share her embroidery designs before the wedding. But if she doesn’t mind, I will write a future blog post about her embroidery and lace designs.
How nice that Stephanie found you! I look forward to seeing the end result… I’m sure the dress and shirt will be beautiful. (btw, I made a shirt that looked somewhat like that and embroidered the front for my husband when we were dating… he wasn’t Ukrainian though, just a hippie. :))
Thanks Ann! I’m excited to see how it all turns out! haha that’s great about the shirt…everyone needs at least one peasant top in their wardrobe 🙂
