Simplicity 8732 Misses’ Vintage Dress

A few years ago, I was asked to sew a dress for the lead in the musi­cal pro­duc­tion, Annie. I used the Sim­plic­i­ty 8732 Miss­es’ Vin­tage Dress sewing pat­tern for her dress. The girl play­ing Annie was about 12/13 years old, which is a tough age to fit dress­es from a com­mer­cial sewing pat­tern. I made a mock-up before cut­ting the final dress.

The fab­ric used for the dress was a cot­ton vel­vet fab­ric pur­chased from Mood Fab­rics in New York City. I added white trim details to make the dress look more play­ful and sim­i­lar to the Annie dress seen in the 1982 film. As you can see in the pho­tos below, I draped dif­fer­ent trims to see which trim looked the best.
