Pattern: Vogue 8603
I manipulated the pattern. Dropped the waist, shortened the hem and moved zipper to the side seam.
Materials:
Leather, Sewing machine, 9″ invisible zipper, Glue, Heavy Fabric Weights
I started with this Vogue Pattern.
I couldn’t imagine trying to dart leather, so I found a pattern that had NO darts. (Plus I love these skirts!)
I repatterned the skirt (on poster board) to have a lower waistline and higher hem.
I moved the zipper to the side seam.
The leather was thick and I wasn’t sure if the invisible zipper would work for this skirt. But I tested the zipper on scraps and it worked and looked great!
Glue is your friend when you stitch heavy leather! CAN’T USE PINS OR BASTE 🙁
Sometimes I will use office clips to keep pieces together, but ultimately glue works the best.
Waiting for the glue to dry slows the process, but the results are better!
I don’t use any particular glue. But I do test the glue before I use it. I want glue that rubs off the leather after I stitch the seam. (My aunt told me that my babcha used cement glue.)
I think I shared all the tips and tricks I used in this project! Thanks for reading and best of luck if you try your own leather skirt!

wonderful. love this skirt. I’ve tried with pleather but have been too afraid to tackle leather
Thanks! How did your pleather skirt turn out? What kind of pattern did you use?
it turned out really well actually. I had used a sample pattern for an FIT class that I did. It was a basic skirt pattern with darts and waistband that I happened to save because it ended up fitting me
