Genuine Leather Beagle Keychain ~Marusya

Time is of the essence. Large projects abound!

In the meantime, I will post this (almost thrown away) genuine leather beagle keychain project!

Last month as I surfed the web, I came across a cute leather dog keychain on amazon.

This keychain on amazon didn’t look complicated, so I figured I’d give it a try! But instead of creating a keychain using one solid leather piece, I decided it’d be neat (and more of a challenge) if I used several colors and have the keychain resemble my friend’s pet!

Former Field Champion!

I  gathered leather pieces and scraps that matched the beagle.

I quickly sketched, traced (like the suspenders tutorial), and cut the pattern pieces.

I had to use my domestic sewing machine to  zigzag stitch the pieces together. It was more difficult to sew the pieces together than I had expected! (I didn’t use any pins, basting stitches or glue!)

Once the pieces were stitched together, I didn’t like what I saw! So, I started to cut away at the ears/head/legs/tail! (I planned for it to look a little homemade with all the piecing, but I didn’t think the ears and head to look so awkward.) After having to redo the head because I had cut away too much leather, I decided to just leave the keychain alone and let it be.

I didn’t spend time finishing the edges properly (b/c by the end I decided I was throwing away the project).

To be honest, I made a replacement gift and (at first) didn’t give away the keychain (until later)!

Overall, I like how the body of the beagle turned out, but I’m kinda creeped out by the ears & head of the keychain!

Well- maybe I’ll attempt a second leather beagle keychain in the future!
