First Holy Communion Dress with Embroidery

My niece, Gigi, received her First Holy Com­mu­nion over the week­end. She has worked in my stu­dio with me since her birth. So, it was fun and spe­cial to design her Com­mu­nion dress togeth­er and cel­e­brate her spe­cial day. 

We had a few ideas in mind but end­ed up with a dif­fer­ent design than planned. Gigi always insist­ed, “Poofy and a dress like a bal­let dancer!”, so we stuck with the tulle skirt design. But we changed the orig­i­nal bodice and neck­line design quite a bit. Because our thoughts and prayers are for Ukraine and Ukraini­ans, my sis­ter asked if we could incor­po­rate Ukrain­ian embroi­dery in the design. We end­ed up choos­ing the French rose embroi­dered trim, which you see in the pho­tos, because it looked very pret­ty when draped on a sam­ple dress. 

We pur­chased gloves at the last minute on Ama­zon. It was a per­fect acces­so­ry- mod­est and very chic!

Gigi’s veil was made from her mom’s wed­ding veil scrap fabric.
